Principal, Ms. Regina Myles

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! It is my honor to serve the students, families, and staff of Baldwin Hills Elementary Pilot and Gifted Magnet. As we embark on the upcoming school year the focus of our learning community remains unchanged
Baldwin Hills is a model for culturally responsive instruction where students’ language and history are consistently validated and affirmed in an academically rigorous and emotionally safe environment. The dynamic and innovative staff recognizes the importance of utilizing students’ cultural capital to design curriculum that is relevant and standards-based. As a pilot school, we have the autonomy to design learning experiences that work best for our students. The strength of our instructional program is evidenced by several accolades including Baldwin Hills Elementary Pilot and Gifted Magnet’s recognition as a California Distinguished School for Closing the Achievement Gap.
We will continue to strengthen partnerships with all community members to provide culturally responsive and academically rigorous instruction. Home and school connections are essential to building a learning environment that celebrates students and encourages life-long learning that supports students as they develop social-political consciousness and become responsible citizens. We will continue to grow together as a community of learners and go above and beyond to meet the social emotional and academic needs of our children.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet each family and staff member as we support each student as they become “…poised and ready to soar.”
Your Proud Principal,
Regina D. Myles

Vice principal, Ms. Faneeza Mohamed

I'm excited to join the community of Baldwin Hills Elementary School as your Assistant Principal. I was born and raised in Guyana, the only English-speaking country in South America. My family and I moved to Los Angeles when I was 15 years old, and while I am not officially a California native, I feel I am in many ways.
I attended Westchester High School and earned my BA in Psychology at UCLA. I started my career as a second-grade teacher at Watts Learning Center, a charter school in South Los Angeles. I taught second grade for six years and third grade for three years. My experiences at Watts allowed me to grow as an educator and instilled in me that all children deserve access to quality education and that our families are our partners in education. I then transitioned to Wright Middle School STEAM & Gifted Magnets, where I taught sixth grade English and History for four years. For the last five years at Wright, I served as the Title 1 Coordinator, English Learner Designee, and Testing Coordinator. While at Wright, I learned many new things, including how to create and facilitate project-based learning and STEAM integration learning experiences for our scholars. My experiences at Wright also deepened my commitment to collaborating with my colleagues and building partnerships with families and community members so our scholars can be successful in their academic and socioemotional journeys.
When I am not wearing my educator hat, you can find me listening to something on Audible, binge-watching Netflix, spending time with family and friends, or working up the nerve to travel again.
I look forward to being a part of your community, sharing my experiences with you, and, most importantly, learning from and with you.

Community School Coordinator, Ms. Jacquelyn walker, m.S.ed

Akwaaba! Hello! Welcome! I am excited to be your FIRST Community Schools Coordinator at Baldwin Hills Elementary Pilot and Gifted High Ability Magnet. My responsibility includes expanding the horizons of learning, building relationships with families, working with the community to realize a shared vision and more importantly caring for the whole child.
This is a new position for our school and me! I know many of you are familiar with me being Baldwin’s 4th/5th grade teacher but now I am in a role to impact and our students, teachers, parents, and the community surrounding our school.
I am native of Los Angeles. I grew up and currently live in the neighborhood surrounding Baldwin. I'm a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I love fried chicken. I eat sushi. I listen to jazz and hip-hop. Go 49er’s!

Primary Promise INtervention teacher, Ms. carly Payne

Hi, I'm Carly Payne and I have been teaching for 20 years in K-5 classrooms. My two most favorite subjects are reading and math; reading takes me to another world, and I am fascinated by all the patterns in math. In my free time you will find me curled up with a good book, bike riding with my family, or watching a Laker game. Go Lakers!
